Cheryl Alderman

In 2011, driven by a lifelong interest in mediation, Cheryl connected with the Dayton Mediation Center and immersed herself in their training and education program. It became clear immediately that she found her calling. Mediation felt like second nature, a natural talent that allowed her to help others navigate complex conflicts. That realization led her to leave the property management industry and become a full-time mediator.

Over the past 14 years, she has mediated cases across a wide range of subject matters, including small claims, landlord/tenant disputes, visitation and custody matters, workplace and business conflicts, neighbor disputes, and, most importantly, divorce, marriage, and family issues. She believes listening is the most critical skill a mediator brings to the table. For many clients, it may be the first time someone has truly taken the time to listen, without judgment or opinion, to their concerns. By slowing down the thought process and talking through their issues, clients can achieve clarity on the underlying problems and identify actionable solutions.

In preparation for mediation, she works with each person individually and privately to help them clarify their priorities and goals. This personalized approach ensures that they feel confident and prepared for the conversations ahead, enabling them to reach outcomes that align with their values and needs. She is deeply committed to this work and finds it to be the most fulfilling and gratifying role she’s ever had the honor of undertaking. Joining the team at Resolvium Divorce Mediation as a mediator in the Ohio area was a natural step, allowing me to bring my expertise to more families in need.

As a mediator, she strives to remain neutral and unbiased, fostering a safe and respectful environment where clients can speak openly and honestly. She guides them in asking the right questions, providing information, and engaging in meaningful dialogue to reach agreements and make decisions that feel right for them. Her goal is to empower clients to maintain control over decisions that directly impact their lives and to find a path forward that works for everyone involved.

When she’s not mediating or preparing clients for their sessions, she also enjoys working as a realtor, helping individuals and families buy their first home, dream home, or sell their current property. Outside of work, she is a proud mom to two adult children and a grandma to two delightful grandkids. Her weekends are often spent cheering them on at volleyball, basketball, and baseball games, a cherished way to stay connected with her family and recharge.

Court filing fees average around $500 and vary by jurisdiction. Estimated ranges are based on typical divorce cases we’ve seen; your actual costs depend on your situation.

How Our Fees Work

Divorce is difficult enough without the added stress of unpredictable costs. Here is how the fees are structured, so you can focus on making thoughtful decisions instead of worrying about hidden charges.

Initial Consultation

Your first consultation is a dedicated time to talk through your situation in a supportive, low pressure setting. We use it to understand your priorities, answer your questions, and explain how mediation works.

Ongoing Mediation Sessions

Sessions after the initial consultation are billed hourly, and how many you need depends on the complexity of your situation. The aim is to help you move forward efficiently and thoughtfully, without unnecessary time or cost.

Sharing the Cost

Most couples choose to share the mediation fees equally, which helps keep the process balanced and fair. Arrangements stay flexible and can be adjusted to your circumstances.

Dayton Divorce Mediation: Common Questions

Can we mediate by video?

Yes. Sessions are often held by video, so couples in Dayton and the surrounding Miami Valley can take part from home, even when you now live in different places.

What does divorce mediation cost in Dayton?

Cost mostly depends on how many sessions you need, which depends on how many issues are still open. The estimator above gives a rough range, our fees page explains how billing works, and your free case review is the place to get a figure for your situation.

Can we mediate if our case is filed in Montgomery County?

In many cases, yes. Couples often mediate after a case has been filed. Your mediator can tell you how mediation would fit alongside your court schedule.

Can mediation help us build a parenting plan?

Yes. Parenting schedules, holidays, school decisions and support can all be worked through in mediation. Your mediator can walk you through how the guidelines tend to apply to your family.

Do we have to agree on everything before we start?

No. Most couples start with open questions about the house, finances or parenting. Working through those is what mediation is for. What matters most is that both of you are willing to take part.
